Perth County ― The Perth District Health Unit (PDHU) has released its new Strategic Plan. The plan outlines three strategic directions that will guide and inform Health Unit activities over the next two years (2017 and 2018).
The previous Strategic Plan for the Health Unit expired at the end of 2015. In 2016, the Health Unit embarked on a strategic planning process guided by the principles of being comprehensive, inclusive, transparent and considerate of the key factors that influence public health practice in Perth County. In addition, input was collected from the Board of Health, PDHU staff, and community partners.
“Even though the Health Unit’s work is to a great extent prescribed by the Ontario Public Health Standards, it’s important that to have overarching strategies to help us meet the needs of our organization and local community,” explains Dr. Miriam Klassen, Perth’s Medical Officer of Health.
Below are the new strategic directions for the PDHU for the next two years:
- Advocate for public health
- Increase the profile of PDHU in targeted ways
- Continue to strengthen relationships with stakeholders/partners
- Prepare for possible health system change
- Support all staff through transition
- Maintain a healthy and resilient workforce
- Ensure effective internal and external communications
- Use evidence-informed decision making
- Continue to strengthen focus on social determinants of health and health equity
- Build internal capacity and awareness
- Be local champions
To put the Strategic Plan into action, the Health Unit has created a Balanced Scorecard to evaluate how well the goals and objectives are met.
