FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, June 2, 2017
Perth County ̶ Perth County residents are now able to visit a pharmacist to receive travel health services. This increase in access to these services, combined with an upcoming change to the provincial standards that guide public health units in Ontario, means that the Perth District Health Unit will discontinue their own travel advice and clinics for travel vaccines as of September 1, 2017.
“This change has been difficult for us as we have offered these services to Perth County residents for over 30 years,” said Dr. Miriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health and CEO. “But the increased availability through local pharmacies will improve people’s access to travel health advice and vaccines.”
If anyone is looking for travel health advice and vaccines, they can contact:
- The Perth District Health Unit (until August 31, 2017)
- Local pharmacies (for anyone aged 5 and over).
- Please remember most travel vaccines are not covered by OHIP, which means there will be a fee and many require a prescription from a doctor.
- John Fitzsimons, Stratford Family Health Team will provide travel consultation (including vaccination). Please note you do not need to be a patient of the Stratford Family Health Team.
- Call his office at 519-273-4993.
- A private travel health clinic in Kitchener, Waterloo or London.
If anyone has an appointment booked at the Perth District Health Unit after September 1, that appointment will be honoured, but no new appointments are being booked after that date.
