Perth County – March is nutrition month and this year area dietitians are encouraging Canadians to take a “100 Meal Journey.” The aim of taking the 100 Meal Journey is to make a small change to your eating habits and practice it over 100 meals.
Research shows that making too many changes at once can be too overwhelming. “Setting goals and making small changes is an easy and manageable way to improve your health and achieve and maintain your goals one small step at a time,” says Shannon Edmonstone, Registered Dietitian at the Perth District Health Unit.
To take the 100 Meal Journey pledge, visit www.NutritionMonth2016.ca. There are also tips from Registered Dietitians on:
- Setting goals
- Making food decisions that support your goals
- Selecting realistic portion sizes
- Trying something new
- Strategies for keeping your goals – even when life gets in the way.
Locally, residents can learn more about nutrition month and feeding a family at the Health Unit’s blog http://diariesofadietitian.blogspot.ca/. Registered Dietitians are also accessible through Family Health Teams and select local grocery stores, such as Sobeys and Zehrs.
